What is the Personal Project?

At the end of the Middle Years Programme (MYP), students are required to complete the Personal Project — an independent, student-driven inquiry that serves as a culminating demonstration of their learning.

Through this project, students explore an area of personal interest over an extended period, applying the ATL (Approaches to Learning) skills they have developed throughout the MYP. The process involves goal setting, planning, researching, creating a product or outcome, and reflecting on the learning journey. The Personal Project highlights their knowledge and skills and fosters independence, creativity, and a sense of ownership in their learning.

Examples of personal projects include creating a perfume, writing a book, or designing a dress. In these projects, students establish both a learning goal and a product goal. For instance, if the project is to create a perfume, the learning goal could be "exploring and understanding different fragrance essences," while the product goal might be to design and create a unique perfume. As students work through their projects, they not only focus on the creation process but also on developing new skills. Upon completion, students write a report that outlines their planning process, the skills they applied or developed, and a reflection on their experience throughout the project.
